GigTaxTally is written and maintained by the GigTaxTally Team. This page explains how we make sure our calculators and guides are accurate.
Our sources
We use primary sources only for tax figures: IRS publications, revenue procedures, notices and forms; the Social Security Administration; and state tax agencies. For state rates we start from the Tax Foundation’s annual state income tax table and check changes against state agencies. Each page lists the figures it uses on How we calculate.
How we check our math
- Every result shows each line of the calculation and the IRS form it matches.
- Our calculator is tested against a second, separately written calculation on thousands of random households; they must agree to the cent.
- We publish verified examples anyone can check by hand.
How often we review
We review every figure each January, when the IRS publishes new amounts, and whenever the IRS or a state announces a change during the year. The “last reviewed” date at the top of each page shows the latest review.
Corrections
If you find an error, email hello@gigtaxtally.com. We reply within 2 business days, fix confirmed errors as fast as we can, and record every correction in our update log.
Independence
GigTaxTally is independent. It is not affiliated with any gig platform or tax software company. Ads never change our results. If we ever earn a commission from a recommendation, we will say so on that page.
What we don’t do
We don’t give personal tax advice, and our calculators are estimates for planning. For decisions about your return, talk to a tax professional.
