DoorDash 1099: how DoorDash reports your earnings

DoorDash sends a Form 1099-NEC if it paid you $2,000 or more for 2026 work (the threshold was $600 for 2025). Since the 2024 tax year, your 1099 is in the Dasher app, not in Stripe Express. Your annual earnings summary in the app shows how much was tips.

No tax on tips for Dashers

Customer tips added in the app or at the door count. Base pay, Peak Pay and Challenges are not tips, so they don’t count toward the deduction. Cash tips only count if you report them. Delivery drivers are on the IRS list of tipped occupations, so DoorDash customer tips qualify. You can deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips from federal income tax for 2025 through 2028 on Schedule 1-A, but not more than your net profit. You still pay self-employment tax on tips.

Deductions for Dashers

  • Mileage while dashing (72.5 cents a mile January to June, 76 cents from July 1)
  • The business share of your phone and data plan
  • Insulated delivery bags and a phone mount
  • Tolls and parking while on a delivery
  • Half of your self-employment tax and, if you pay for it yourself, health insurance

DoorDash mileage deduction 2026: which miles count

Miles you drive while dashing generally count: driving to the restaurant, to the customer and between orders. Driving from home to the area where you start may be treated as commuting. Log your miles every day; the Dasher app’s delivery records are not a complete mileage log.

Quarterly taxes for Dashers

If you expect to owe $1,000 or more for the year, the IRS expects payments during the year. The 2026 due dates:

DoorDash tax questions

How much should I set aside for taxes as a Dasher?

In the example above, a Dasher sets aside $9 of every $100, about $74 a week, before state tax. Drivers who track mileage usually set aside about $8 to $11 per $100 for federal tax in 2026; more in high-tax states or with few deductible miles.

Yes. Delivery drivers are on the IRS list of tipped occupations, so DoorDash customer tips qualify. You can deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips from federal income tax, up to your net profit.

Will I get a 1099 from DoorDash?

For 2026 work you get a Form 1099-NEC if paid $2,000 or more, and a Form 1099-K if card and app payments were over $20,000 and more than 200 transactions. Report all your income even without a form.

What is the 2026 mileage rate for Dashers?

72.5 cents per mile from January 1 to June 30, 2026, and 76 cents per mile from July 1 to December 31, 2026.

When are quarterly taxes due for 2026?

April 15, June 15 and September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027.
