How much to save for taxes from DoorDash each week
Divide the yearly figure by 52. A single Dasher earning $40,000 who tracks mileage sets aside about $62 a week for federal tax, more in a state with income tax. The DoorDash tax calculator shows your weekly figure.
Why the number stays near $8 per $100
Below about $60,000 of earnings, the standard deduction, the tips deduction and the 20% business income deduction usually cover a driver’s whole profit for income tax. What’s left is self-employment tax, 15.3% of 92.35% of profit, which works out to about $8 per $100 earned when mileage takes about 40% of earnings.
When to set aside more
- You drive fewer miles per dollar earned (less mileage deduction).
- You also have a W-2 job, which pushes your gig profit into a higher bracket.
- You live in a state with income tax, or in a city with its own tax.
- You earn little in tips (smaller tips deduction).
