Instacart 1099: how Instacart reports your earnings
Full-service shoppers are independent contractors and get a Form 1099-NEC if Instacart paid them $2,000 or more for 2026 work. Check the Shopper app and your email in January for how to access it. In-store shoppers are employees and get a W-2 instead, so this calculator is not for them.
No tax on tips for Instacart shoppers
Customer tips added in the app count. Batch pay and promotions are not tips. App-based delivery workers are on the IRS list of tipped occupations, so Instacart customer tips qualify. You can deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips from federal income tax for 2025 through 2028 on Schedule 1-A, but not more than your net profit. You still pay self-employment tax on tips.
