Lyft 1099: how Lyft reports your earnings
Lyft posts your tax documents and an annual summary in the tax information section of your Lyft driver account. You may get a 1099-K if riders paid over $20,000 across more than 200 rides, and a 1099-NEC for bonuses and other payments of $2,000 or more for 2026 work. Report all your income even if no form arrives.
No tax on tips for Lyft drivers
Tips riders add in the app count. Ride earnings, bonuses and streak rewards are not tips. Rideshare drivers are on the IRS list of tipped occupations, so rider tips qualify. You can deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips from federal income tax for 2025 through 2028 on Schedule 1-A, but not more than your net profit. You still pay self-employment tax on tips.
Deductions for Lyft drivers
- Miles while online, including driving to pickups
- Lyft’s fees, if your 1099-K shows gross ride payments
- Tolls, airport fees and parking
- Phone and data plan (business share), car washes, water for riders
- Half of your self-employment tax and, if you pay for it yourself, health insurance
