Spark 1099: how Spark reports your earnings

Walmart’s Spark sends a Form 1099-NEC covering your earnings and tips ($2,000 or more for 2026 work; $600 for 2025). Tap Tax Documents on the Spark Driver home screen and enter your full Social Security number to view it. It is available, or mailed, by January 31.

No tax on tips for Spark drivers

Customer tips count, and your Spark 1099 includes them in the total, so keep your own record of tips. Delivery earnings and incentives are not tips. Delivery drivers are on the IRS list of tipped occupations, so Spark customer tips qualify. You can deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips from federal income tax for 2025 through 2028 on Schedule 1-A, but not more than your net profit. You still pay self-employment tax on tips.

Deductions for Spark drivers

  • Miles from the store to each customer and back
  • Insulated bags for groceries
  • Tolls and parking
  • The business share of your phone and data plan
  • Half of your self-employment tax

Spark mileage deduction 2026: which miles count

Miles from the store to customers and between offers generally count. Because your 1099 mixes tips with pay, note your tips and miles each day.

Spark tax questions

How much should I set aside for taxes as a Spark driver?

In the example above, a Spark driver sets aside $9 of every $100, about $57 a week, before state tax. Drivers who track mileage usually set aside about $8 to $11 per $100 for federal tax in 2026; more in high-tax states or with few deductible miles.

Does Spark take out taxes?

No. Spark drivers are independent contractors, so Spark does not withhold any tax. You pay it yourself through quarterly estimated payments or when you file.

Does no tax on tips apply to Spark?

Yes. Delivery drivers are on the IRS list of tipped occupations, so Spark customer tips qualify. You can deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips from federal income tax, up to your net profit.

Will I get a 1099 from Spark?

For 2026 work you get a Form 1099-NEC if paid $2,000 or more, and a Form 1099-K if card and app payments were over $20,000 and more than 200 transactions. Report all your income even without a form.

What is the 2026 mileage rate for Spark drivers?

72.5 cents per mile from January 1 to June 30, 2026, and 76 cents per mile from July 1 to December 31, 2026.

When are quarterly taxes due for 2026?

April 15, June 15 and September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027.
